Leo Tolstoy as a researcher of Islam will be represented in the Kazan Kremlin

The exhibition “Leo Tolstoy and the Islamic World” is timed to the 190th birth anniversary of the writer.

(KZN.RU, September 4). Kazan citizens will be able to learn Leo Tolstoy from an unexpected side in the Museum of Islamic Culture. The exhibition “Leo Tolstoy and the Islamic World” opens on September 7. It will present the results of the Koran's study of the writer and his correspondence with the Tatar intelligentsia.

The new exhibition opens after another one also dedicated to the Year of Tolstoy in Tatarstan and his 190th birth anniversary “Believe yourself!”. Kazan audience will be shown pages of Korans and literature on Islamic themes from the collection of the museum-estate “Yasnaya Polyana” with Leo Tolstoy's notes, his correspondence with scholars from Egypt and India, Tatar intelligentsia, as well as photographs of meetings with Sadri Maksudi, Gainan Vaisov, and other famous people.

For the first time, the public will see a letter of the Kazan publicist and writer Fatikh Amirkhan, in which he addresses Leo Tolstoy for advice. In addition, small books, inexpensive pocket editions, will be shown with translations of Leo Tolstoy's works into the Tatar language and periodicals issues of the XIX and XX centuries.

The opening of the exhibition will take place at 4 pm. Kazan citizen will be able to visit it until the end of November, said the organizers.
