The new part of the Kazan zoo has been operating in a test mode since December 21.
Lion Insar and lionesses Kiara and Lucy moved to the Kazan zoo the “Zambezi River”. Spacious, warm, equipped enclosures were prepared for them, the press service of the zoo reports.
Presently, the new enclosures have already become a home to hippopotamus, crocodiles, hamadryas, ostriches, buff-backed herons, leopard tortoises, the Brazza’s monkeys, meerkats, damans, dik-diks, lions, blue wildebeest, lemurs and others. The zoo will be fully populated in 2020-2021. So, next year it is planned to settle chimpanzees, giraffes, gorillas, elephants, rhinos and cheetahs.
For information, since December 21, the new zoo “the Zambezi River” is operating in a test mode. Visitors have the opportunity to meet new inhabitants and see the animals moved from the old part of the zoo.
After the completion of all stages of renovation, the territory of the Kazan zoo will increase three times – from 7 to 21 hectares. The zoo will be divided into three parts: “the Zambezi River”, where African animals will settle, “the Amazon River” - for animals living in South America, and the territory with animals from different parts of Russia. It is planned that all three parts will be connected by bridges and a tunnel.
