About 16 thousand people visited the Summer Book Festival of “Smena” in the park “Chernoe Ozero”.

The festival featured books by 80 publishing houses.

(KZN.RU, June 17). The Summer Book Festival of “Smena” took place last weekend in the park “Chernoe Ozero”. It was attended by about 16 thousand people. A fair with the participation of 80 publishing houses, 18 lectures, excursions, master classes and children's classes were organized at the festival.

Most often, visitors bought the book “About cosmetics simply” by Adel Miftakhova and Masha Vorslav. The authors presented it during the event and told about how the sphere of beauty works, what difficulties and tricks the buyers of cosmetics may face. The lecture was attended by about 250 people. about 1500 people attended lectures of the festival.

Educational master classes were held for children of all ages and their parents, and a music studio was working at the festival. At these sites, children and their parents learned to create illustrations based on books, they composed and rap. Children could also visit the installation “Bauhaus Labyrinth”, which presented the project “Smena. Children”. It will continue in the park after the festival.

In addition to the fair and an extensive lecture program, a rich parallel program of the festival was held at several sites in the city. The exhibition “Red”, the final part of the triptych of one of the most famous artists of Kazan, Ilgizar Khasanov, was held at the Center of Contemporary Culture “Smena”. In the bookstore “Smena”, visitors could see the exposition “Samizdatel, samchitatel” (Rus. “Self-publisher, self-reader”), dedicated to Evgeny Malakhin, a legendary character of the unofficial art of Ekaterinburg, better known as Starik B.U. Kashkin.

Special master classes from festival lecturers were held there. The master class of illustrator Matt Madden’s “Style Exercise” gave the visitors the opportunity to draw their one-page comic book and experimented with the way of story-telling. At the “Narrative in one frame” lesson by Evgeny Tonkohogy, the participants chose a story from their lives and learned to convey it without words, using one picture, and created their first illustration, reports the press service of the festival.

The “Smena” also hosted the first discussion of the future book dedicated to the Mergasovsky house. It was attended by the authors of the play “Mergasovsky”: Vera Popova, Radmila Khakova, Yoldyz Minnullina, Vladimir Rannev, Ksenia Shachneva. They were joined by anthropologist Dmitry Oparin, who conducted research on famous Moscow houses through the fate of the people who lived in them. They discussed the materials that have already been collected and will be included in the publication, and the materials that are yet to be collected.

The next book festival will be held in December at the Center of Contemporary Culture “Smena”.
