Cuban dances, a fashion film and the battle of Tatar grandmothers against chefs: the Kazan Friendship of Peoples’ Festival

The festival of national costume will be held in front of the Palace of Farmers next Saturday.

On September 11, Kazan will host for the first time the festival of national costume “Kazan of Friendship of Peoples”, dedicated to the Year of Native Languages and National Unity. Guests and residents of the city will get acquainted with the traditions and culture of the peoples living in the region. Daria Sannikova, director of the Committee for Tourism Development of the city, told about the festival today at the Business Monday.

The events will begin at 12:00 on the square in front of the Palace of Farmers. Kazan residents and visitors of the capital of Tatarstan will be able to make hand-made souvenirs, take photos in national costumes and listen to a concert program. At the event, there will be also master classes of Cuban, Georgian, Mexican dances and watch the flash mob.

Local musicians recorded an author's track, which is based on Tatar, Russian, Mordovian, Chuvash and other folk songs. Local dancers will perform a dance, the elements of which also combine different national motifs – guests will watch a spectacular performance. A fashion film “Juha” by Tatyana Chernoguzova will be shown, which became a finalist at the Berlin Fashion Film Festival and participated in other film festivals. It is based on Tatar folklore fairy tales and myths.

In addition, a tasting of national dishes will be held, as well as cooking of pilaf with beef in a large pot.
