“It's good that we have lived to see such concerts": The “Parade at the Veteran's House” event took place in Kazan

For participants of the Great Patriotic War, widows and home front workers, concerts were organized with the presentation of Letters of Victory

On the eve of Victory Day, the “Parade at the Veteran's House” event took place in Kazan for the fifth time. Military vehicles drove through the streets of the city, making stops for concerts in honor of the participants of the Great Patriotic War. Festive events were held at the Veterans' Houses, in the park on Sovetskaya Square, in Victory and Petrov Parks.

Military vehicles ZIS-5 “Trehtonka”, GAZ-20 “Pobeda”, GAZ-69, the famous “Katyusha”, ZIS, as well as a self-propelled artillery installation SU-100 and a T-34 tank placed on trawls left Military Camp-2. The transport passed through the Orenburgsky tract, Akademika Parina and Khusaina Mavlyutova Streets and arrived at the Veterans' House at 35 Dubravnaya Street.

Kazan residents coming out to the concert were greeted by activists of the Victory Volunteers movement. They presented flowers and Letters of Victory to veterans.

The band “Vesyolye Volgari”, as well as Honored Artist of Tatarstan Elvira Khairullina performed for the veterans. Together with the singer, the veterans performed the song “Blue Handkerchief”.

Presently, 64 residents live in the Veterans' House, including 13 home front workers, as well as widows of war participants. So, among the guests of the concert was Minakhmet Misbakhovich Kiyamov. The total length of service of a labor veteran is 49 years. During the war, while still a student, he worked in collective farm fields, after graduating from the Yelabuga Pedagogical Institute, worked as a teacher and school principal. From 1961 to 1968, he participated in the development of virgin lands.

“Thank you for such attention to us and for the great respect. We are very happy to be honored and remembered. It's good that we have lived to see such concerts. We go out to watch the holiday every year”- said Minakhmet Kiyamov.

A home front worker Raisya Aizatullina, a veteran of labor with 46 years of experience, also awaited the festive concert. During the war, she worked on a collective farm, and after the Great Patriotic War she moved to Kazan, where she worked at a factory.

Naila Safarova, a resident of the Veterans' Home, remembered the post-war years and her father. “I was 20 months old when my father died in the Battle for Moscow near Rzhev. I am a child of war, we were cold and hungry poor,” -she says.

Another resident of the Veterans House Omelkhoda Kalimullina, after graduating from the factory apprenticeship school during the World War II, worked as a turner and milling machine operator at an evacuated factory in Zlatoust. “Everything is fine with us now, I live in a Veterans' House, I have friends here. This is my first time at a concert. It is very important to hold such events now,”- the labor veteran said.

Albert Salikhov, head of the administration of the Vakhitovsky and Privolzhsky districts, and Olga Voronova congratulated veterans on the upcoming Victory Day.

Then the column moved along Fuchika st., Agrarnaya st., Kosmonavtov st/ and Pobedy Avenue, after which it stopped in the park on Sovetskaya Square to congratulate two participants of the Great Patriotic War and a resident of besieged Leningrad. Victory and Petrov Parks became the final points of the “Parade at the Veteran's House” event.
