Kazan citizens will see the collection of autochromes of the Tsarskoe Selo in the museum of E. Boratynsky

The exhibition, dedicated to the 100th death anniversary of the imperial family, will open on July 17.

(KZN.RU, July 12). On July 17, the exhibition “Tsarskoe Selo: the last residence of the last emperor” dedicated to the 100th death anniversary of the imperial family will open in the museum of E. Boratynsky.

On the night of July 16 to July 17, 1918, Emperor Nicholas II and his family were shot in the basement of Ipatiev's house in Yekaterinburg, on the resolution of the executive committee of the Ural Regional Council of Workers', Peasants' and Soldiers' Deputies.

The white hall of the museum will present a collection of autochromes, color images that appeared in the photo thanks to the Lumiere brothers. The history of the creation of a series of autochromes of the Tsarskoe Selo is connected with the photographic fixation of palace interiors and the cataloging of items as objects of high artistic and cultural value. The initiator of photography was G. Lukomsky, the chairman of the Tsarskoye Selo Art and Historical Commission, the artist-architect. Immediately after the February Revolution, he insisted on photographing “all the most valuable items in the palaces, and also fixing the order and type of furniture for the next generations and the science at the time of the end of the Russian monarchy”.

The first shooting took place in the Catherine Palace in June 1917, in Alexandrovsky – from August 14 (new style), immediately after the family of Emperor Nicholas II was sent to Tobolsk, and lasted until October.

The collection of color transparencies-autochromes with the types of interiors of the Tsarskoe Selo palaces and objects from museum collections, made in 1917, can rightfully be called unique. The surviving autochromes make it possible to judge the extremely high artistic level of the executed works. The colorful interiors of the Catherine and Alexandrovsky palaces with original objects of decoration are reproduced with great skill.

Objects related to the Imperial Court and the events of 1917 will be exhibited from the funds of the National Museum of the RT and the Lobachevsky Scientific Library of the Kazan Federal University.

The exhibition will work in the museum of E. Boratynsky from July 17 to August 17, reports the press service of the National Museum of the RT.
