From 3 to 7 of July, over 600 athletes from 50 countries of the European continent will compete for medals.
(KZN.RU, June 24). The Kazan Palace of Water Sports will host the European Swimming Championship for the first time. From 3 to 7 of July, over 600 athletes from 50 countries of the Old World will compete for medals.
The participants of the competition are boys aged 15-18 years old and girls aged 14-17 years old. All of them are potential members of national teams at the upcoming Olympic Games-2020 in Tokyo. The five-day competition program of the tournament, which is held in a 50-meter pool, includes individual distances (freestyle, back, breaststroke, butterfly and complex swimming), as well as freestyle and combined races.
The European Swimming Championships has been held under the auspices of the European Swimming League (LEN) since 1967. Since 1982, the tournament has become an annual event.
The decision to hold a tournament in Kazan was made at a meeting of the organization’s bureau in Vienna (Austria) in 2015. In 2016, the European swimming championship was held in Hodmesevasharhehey (Hungary). In 2017, Netanya (Israel) opened its doors to participants and spectators of the tournament. In 2018, Helsinki (Finland) hosted the competition. In 2020, the European Swimming Championships will be held in Aberdeen (Scotland).
