The name was chosen according to the results of the contest “Great Names of Russia”.
(KZN.RU, December 5). The results have been summed up on the final vote for the choice of names for 47 airports, participants of the contest “Great Names of Russia”.
The results were announced on the air of one of the programs of the federal TV channel, as well as published on the website великиеимена.рф.
The competition was attended by 5 million 525 thousand 553 people. In most regions, winners are names with a majority of votes.
The finalists of the competition for the name of the Kazan International Airport were Gabdulla Tukai, Musa Jalil and Andrey Tupolev. The winner was Gabdulla Tukai, the great Tatar poet, one of the founders of the modern literary Tatar, who occupies the same place in the Tatar poetry as Alexander Pushkin does in the Russian one.
The project dedicated to the assignment of the names of great Russian compatriots to the international airports of Russia includes 45 airports throughout the country, in particular, the Kazan International Airport and the Begishevo Airport. The idea of a nationwide competition, which was made by the Russian Geographical Society, the Russian Historical Society, the Society of Russian Literature, the Russian Military Historical Society, was supported by the Public Chamber of Russia.
At the final stage of the competition from 12 to 30 of November, each resident of the Russian Federation could choose one Russian airport from the general list and vote “one vote – one airport – one name”. The voting was conducted simultaneously in several ways: on the site ВеликиеИмена.рф, in social networks, and by phone number.
