The most large-scale festivities will take place at the site near the Family Center “Kazan” and the Lebyazhie Lake.
(KZN.RU, March 2). Fr om 4 to 10 of March, Russia will celebrate the traditional Slavic holiday Maslenitsa. Festivities will be held at several sites in Kazan. Residents and guests of the city could attend games, entertainments, contests, and have the main festive delicacy – pancakes with various fillers.
The main sites where the biggest festivities are organized will be the ice town on the territory of the Family Center “Kazan”. The program starts on March 9 at 11 am. It includes a theater performance with the participation of fairy-tale characters, a concert and entertainment-game program for children and adults, winter fun with a prize draw, a competition of chastushkas, dances and games, as well as the traditional ritual of burning a scarecrow.
Several sites will open on the territory of the ice town. The folk one with Russian folk games and fun, competitive and games – for horse and pony riding. Citizens can also visit rollercoaster rides and ice slides. Performers of folk songs and dances will take the main stage, Kazan citizens will see performances with elements of circus art, the Petrushka Theater, as well as the main fragments of traditional Slavic festive culture. There will also be a fair of products by masters of arts and crafts, master class on walking with stilts, folk dances, amulets and commemorative coins making.
Everyone could taste pancakes and also gingerbread, cooked according to old Russian recipes.
From 4 to 10 of March, the Museum of History of the Annunciation Cathedral invites Kazan citizens to a special program for schoolchildren with a master class “Maslenitsa”.
On March 4 at 2 pm, inclusive Maslenitsa festivities will be held in the Gorky Park for the first time. A holiday will be arranged there for families with disabled children and children from the group “Goroshek”, who are engaged in the folklore group “Dukhov Den” at the Orthodox school of St. Guri of Kazan. The program of the festival includes traditional folk children's games, sleigh rides, songs and, of course, delicious pancakes and tea.
On March 6 and 8 at 2 pm, a theater performance and a game program for children and adults will be organized in the park “Krylya Sovetov”. There will be tug-of-war, fight on bags and pillows, taking a snow town, master classes, snowmobile riding, the Sniper attraction, carols and a food court wh ere you can warm up by drinking tea or coffee.
On March 7 at 1:00 pm, Maslenitsa festivities will take place in Sukhaya Reka settlement. The program includes performances by creative groups, sports games, children's rides, an exhibition, burning of a scarecrow, a festive trade. All guests will be offered delicious treats: pancakes, cakes, and sweets.
Every day until March 7, Pancake Week will be celebrated in the National Museum of the RT. Visitors to the museum will be able to learn how the holiday was celebrated in the old days, meet with an amusing and cheerful skomorokh, plunge into the atmosphere of Maslenitsa, games, jokes, and songs.
On March 10, a concert program with folk festivals and contests will be prepared for visitors in the Kazan Zoo. On the same day, Pancake Week will be celebrated in the park “Kaleidoscope”.
On March 10 at 10 am, a large-scale celebration will take place in the forest park of Lebyazhie Lake. The traditional massive farewell of winter with a theater performance, taking of the snow fortress and the rite of burning scarecrow are waiting for the citizens. The program of the festival includes concert and entertainment programs, winter fun, a fair of handicrafts and pancakes made according to old Russian recipes.
Bus routes №36, 46, 72 in Kazan will operate in an enhanced mode due to the celebration of Maslenitsa on March 10 from 8 am to 3 pm, reports the Transport Committee.
Maslenitsa is the fun farewell of winter with the joyful expectation of close warmth and spring renewal of nature. Festivities will be organized in all districts and residential areas of the city. They will be held in the houses of culture, art schools, teen clubs, and other institutions.
