Kazan has won the right to host the first Games of Future in 2024

The victory of the capital of Tatarstan was announced at the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum.

Today, at the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum, Kazan was announced as the host city of a new technological sports event Games of Future, which will take place in February 2024. Moscow, St. Petersburg, Kazan, Kaluga and the federal territory “Sirius” took part in the bidding campaign of the large-scale international competitions.

Dmitry Chernyshenko, Deputy Prime Minister of the Russian Federation, Chair of the Bidding Committee of the Games of Future, Oleg Matytsin, Minister of Sports, Igor Stolyarov, CEO of the Games of Future, as well as the representatives of the regions that competed for the right to host the Games attended the announcing ceremony.

“It is a great honor for us to become a host city of a new format of sports competitions that mark the unity of the real and the virtual worlds. I want to thank everyone who supported and voted for us! Kazan has a huge experience in hosting major international sports competitions. We have a friendly and experienced organizational team, excellent infrastructure and a powerful team of volunteers. The main resource is our hardworking and hospitable residents of Kazan, who love and know how to welcome guests. We will do our best to make the Games of Future an unforgettable event in the world of sports and a new digital golden page in the history of our country,”- said Ilsur Metshin, Mayor of Kazan, at the ceremony of announcing the host city.

“Games of Future are new international competitions in 15 hybrid disciplines. Each of them combines the phygital concept (physical + digital), unity of classic sports and e-sports or VR/ AR technology.

The bidding campaign started in November 2021. Forty regions showed interest in the project, half of them competed for the right to host this event. The shortlist included Moscow, St. Petersburg, Kazan, Kaluga and the federal territory “Sirius”. The working group on the preparation of the Games of Future conducted inspection visits, during which it assessed sports and hotel infrastructure, competition venues, as well as the readiness of cities to provide all necessary services for participants and guests of the competition according to 200 criteria.

More than 5,000 participants will take part in the Games of Future. It is expected that up to 150 million people worldwide will watch the cyber-contest online.

The main sports venues for the Games in Kazan will be the Kazan Expo, the Basket Hall, the Sports Palace, the Forsazh karting center, the Pyramid complex. The opening and closing ceremonies of the Games will take place at the Tatneft Arena.

Twenty-three hotels of the city, as well as the Universiade Village, will be used for accommodation of participants and guests of the competitions.

Kazan has hosted many major international competitions, such as the 2013 Universiade, 2015 FINA World Championships, the 2018 FIFA World Cup, as well as the Worldskills Championships in 2019.

Since 2013, more than 120 sports events of international, federal and republican levels have been held in Kazan, in which more than 70 thousand volunteers were involved.
