Kazan sets a new green record – over half a million trees have been planted in 11 years

In the capital of Tatarstan, the number of planted trees exceeds the number of cars.

In 2021, 26,500 trees and over 13 thousand shrubs were planted in Kazan, Chair of the Land Improvement Committee Igor Salyakhutdinov reported to the Mayor of Kazan Ilsur Metshin at the annual meeting on the results of work. For eleven years, since 2011, 543.2 thousand trees have been planted in the capital of Tatarstan – this is a new green record for the city.

“Kazan is a city where the number of new trees has increased the number of vehicles, - I.Metshin said. - Ten years ago, the situation was different, the number of cars exceeded the number of trees, despite the fact that there were fewer cars by one and a half times than today. Then we set a goal - to significantly increase the rate of planting and today we see the result”.

For reference, there are about 460,000 cars in Kazan.

Igor Kulyazhev, Deputy Head of the Executive Committee in charge of land improvement issues, took part in the traditional annual report.
