Kazan will join the Earth Hour environmental event

The illumination will be turned off on the buildings of the City Hall, the Executive Committee, as well as district administrations.

On March 27, Kazan will join the Earth Hour environmental event. From 20.30 to 21.30, the illumination of the Executive Committee, the City Hall, district administrations and other buildings in the city will be turned off.

The capital of Tatarstan takes part in this international event annually. On the upcoming Saturday, the illumination of the facades of buildings, the system of emergency lighting and other electrical devices that are not used to ensuring the safety of life will be turned off.
Kazan residents can also support the event by turning off the lights for an hour and refusing to use electrical gadgets.

The international event was established in 2007 on the initiative of the World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF), Russia joined it in 2009. The goal of the Earth Hour is to draw attention to the ecology, conservation of natural resources and the environment. More than 2 billion people around the world in 188 countries participate in the event, and the lighting of more than 18 thousand architectural monuments turns off.

Last year, according to the Tatarstan Ministry of Ecology, Tatarstan citizens saved 50 MW of electricity by joining the Earth Hour event.
