On May 9, the main commemorative events will take place on Millennium Square, in Victory Park and on Bauman Street.
On Victory Day, Honored Artist of the Russia Dmitry Dyuzhev will perform on Millennium Square after the commemoration parade of the Kazan garrison. Together with the Honored Artist of Tatarstan Elmira Kalimullina, he will perform poetic and vocal compositions. This was announced today by Azat Abzalov, head of the Culture Department of the Executive Committee of Kazan, at a press conference in the Tatar-Inform news agency.
Laying flowers, commemoration parade and the Immortal Regiment
In total, about 130 cultural events have been prepared in Kazan, some of them have already been held, the main commemorations are scheduled for May 9. The ceremony of laying flowers to the military graves at the Arkhangelsky and Arsky cemeteries will begin at 8 am. In Victory Park, flowers will be laid at the Eternal Flame, monuments of Home Front Workers, Mothers and widows, Soviet Soldiers.
Other commemorations will take place on the Millennium Square. At 10:00, the commemorative parade of the Kazan garrison and a motorized column consisting of 24 military vehicles – the legendary IS and T-34 tanks, modern samples of armored personnel carriers, infantry fighting vehicles, and retro vehicles will close the column.
More than 1 thousand servicemen and cadets of the military schools, students of Suvorov Military College will take part in the Victory Parade. The Kazan consolidated choir will perform the song “Victory Day”. Honored Artist of the Russian Federation Dmitry Dyuzhev and Honored Artist of the republic of Tatarstan Elmira Kalimullina will perform together with the choir. They will perform poetic and vocal compositions.
There will also be an exhibition of military equipment on the square throughout the day.
Commemorative events are planned in Victory Park during the day. At 11:00, the parade of students of the military schools will begin, and then the traditional festival of children's brass bands “Fanfare of Victory” and other performances will take place.
The Immortal Regiment will be a long-awaited event for the residents of Kazan. After a two-year break, it will be held in the format of a procession with posters of war heroes.
The procession will begin at 13:00 at the intersection of Karl Marx and Tolstoy Streets, and then along Karl Marx and Lobachevsky Streets, along the Black Lake Park and Kremlevskaya Street. The event starts at 15:00.
The Immortal Regiment event will end at the Millennium Square with a festive concert.
Reenactment of the Victory Parade of 1945, Singing Kazan and fireworks
Bauman Street will be one of the commemoration sites, where an immersive performance will take place at 15:00 – a reconstruction of the Victory Parade of 1945. Festive concerts, an exhibition of retro vehicles, an outdoor cinema and a field kitchen will be held on the pedestrian street, and copies of newspaper issues from May 9, 1945 will be distributed.
At 19:00, the Millennium Square will host a concert program of professional singers and youth music bands, as well as a performance of the choir “Singing Kazan”. The evening celebration will be held in the format of folk karaoke. Dmitry Dyuzhev will also take part in the concert.
The holiday will end at 22:00 with colorful fireworks -the Kremlin Embankment, the Kazan Family Center, Millennium Square will be the best places to watch it.
For reference, 17,938 veterans of the Great Patriotic War live in Tatarstan, of which 5,199 live in Kazan: disabled people and war veterans, home front workers and widows.
