“Museum gardens” will appear in Kazan

The tradition of “apothecary gardens” with spicy and fragrant plants will be revived in the city.

(KZN.RU, October 11). On October 13, the State Museum of Fine Arts of the RT will launch the project “Museum Gardens”. Gardens and parks will be created around the museum buildings of Kazan.

The first action carried out within the framework of the project will be the making of the “Apothecary Garden” on the site of the estate garden of the Bulygin family (Karl Marks Street, №64). On October 13 at 10 am, medicinal and ornamental plants, including chestnut, jasmine, Iranian lilac, oregano, peppermint, and others, will be planted there, according to the State Museum of Fine Arts of the RT. This is the ideal time for their planting, believe experts and authors of the project.

Today, the house of the Bulygin has an exposition “Visiting the Brenings”. The Kazan and Republican old-timers, historians and local historians, the Brenings family, are known for their pharmacy, musical, and photo activities. Therefore, the “Apothecary Garden” will be located there.

For the first time “Apothecary Garden” with medicinal and spicy herbs appeared in Russia at monastic gardens in the XI-XIII centuries. They became popular in the XVI-XVII centuries.

Nailya Vazykhova, a landscape designer, one of the authors of the Apothecary Garden concept, Tatiana Brening, Rozalia Nurgaleeva, the director of the State Museum of Fine Arts of the RT, together with her staff, students of the school №3 will participate in the planting ceremony. The museum staff will treat the “Apothecary Garden”.
