By the new school year, a gym and an outdoor sport complex accessible for children with disabilities will open at school No. 49 in Kazan

The Mayor of Kazan instructed to consider opening additional workshops for girls in an empty facility.

By the new school year, a new facility with a gym and an outdoor sports and recreation complex accessible for children with disabilities will open at school No. 49 of the Novo-Savinovsky district of Kazan. Students of nearby schools will also be able to visit these facilities. The progress of construction was inspected by the Mayor of Kazan Ilsur Metshin.

“We must make every effort to give children with disabilities opportunity to attend sports and cultural institutions, as well as realize their talents. Therefore, it was decided to establish an inclusive cluster at school No. 49: last year we handed over workshops for boys, now we are building a gym and an outdoor sports venue. They will also be accessible for children with disabilities,”- Ilsur Metshin, the Mayor of Kazan, said at a meeting at school.

The Mayor got acquainted with a design project of extension for the gym, specialists of the Institute of City Development developed the layouts. The building with an area of 615 sq.m will include a gym and sports halls, areas for therapeutic physical culture and bocce games, as well as a lobby, locker rooms and a room for equipment. Up to 30 children will be able to attend the gym at the same time. Students of nearby schools will also play sports at the new venue.

The construction is on schedule, to date the work has been completed by 25%. About 20 people work at the facility, up to 35-40 specialists are involved in other types of work. The workers installed utilities, arranged the foundation, roof and walls, and are now decorating the facade. Then, they will start laying the floor.

The head of the Department of Construction and Renovation of the Executive Committee of Kazan, Marat Samigullin, informed the Mayor that workout equipment have yet to be purchased. “Last year we opened a sports complex for people with disabilities near the Yardem Mosque. We need to find out which kind of equipment for training is in demand and make a new order of equipment taking into account this experience. School No. 49 will have not just a gym, but a cluster for adults and children with disabilities, so it is important to pay attention to the equipment,”- the Mayor noted.

An outdoor venue is being built on the territory of the school under the Sport is the Norm of Life federal program of the Demography national project. About 100 people will be able to study there at the same time. The sports complex will include a football pitch, basketball and volleyball courts, tracks and workout equipment. At the moment, the work has been completed by 90%. Builders will have to mark up and cover tracks and sports grounds with a finishing layer.

A large sports cluster is being created for residents of the Novo-Savinovsky district, the Mayor noted. According to him, all aspects related to inclusion have been worked out taking into account the current standards. “We plan to complete the construction by the new school year. This work will continue in the city,”- Ilsur Metshin added.

Earlier, MasterOK creative leisure center was opened at school No. 49 for students and children with disabilities. It is located in an additional building of the school with an area of about 300 sq.m. The center has workshops for plumbing and carpentry, robotics and creativity. The building is equipped with ramps and sanitary facilities for children with disabilities. At the moment, 30 children with special needs attend the leisure center.
