The progress of work at one of the most challenging sections of the highway was inspected by the Mayor of Kazan Ilsur Metshin.
By June, the construction of a tunnel will be completed at Gorkovskoye Highway, at the intersection with Bolotnikova St., Frunze St. and Vosstaniya St., which will become part of a three-level interchange. After asphalt works, traffic will be launched. Alongside, the construction of the overpass will be carried out, which will be completed by the end of the year. Today, the Mayor of Kazan Ilsur Metshin inspected the reconstruction of one of the heavily used highways in the city and highly appreciated the progress of work.
“The most challenging section is a three-level interchange at the U–turn ring of Gorkovskoye Highway. The weather allows us to work at full strength now – 41 vehicles and 62 workers are involved. We plan to finish the work in time,”- the Mayor said. He added that the reconstruction of the highway is divided into several stages, the traffic at the first of the sections will open at the end of June. “Drivers and passengers of public transport will see improvements,”- the head of the city believes. All reconstruction works will be completed by the end of 2024, Ilsur Metshin reminded.
According to Igor Kulyazhev, Deputy head of the Executive Committee of Kazan, the three-level interchange, which is the main road transport hub of the Gorkovskoye Highway, consists of a tunnel, a road and an overpass. Today, the first overlap of the tunnel has been filled in, now workers are preparing to fill the base, as well as the overlap of the second and third parts. In addition, six overpass supports have already been installed, the length of which will be 185 m. The spans of will be installed on the structures later. The surface roadway is planned to be completed by June.
After the reconstruction, three underground U–turn rings will also appear on the Gorkovskoye Highway - on the section from Kulakhmetova St. to Vosstaniya St., on Zalesnaya Street near Olympietz Sports Complex and on Osinovskaya St. Today, the second of these facilities is 70% ready, and a tunnel is being built on the third ring. The project provides for two planar U-turn rings – near the Fakel shopping center it will open this year, near the Lebyazhie Lake next year.
“Today Gorkovskoye Highway is one of the most challenging traffic sites in the city. We plan that after the reconstruction, the capacity of the highway will almost double,”- the Mayor said. To do this, the road on the section from the Fakel shopping center to Olympietz Sports Complex will be expanded to six lanes. Now the work is completing here, the construction workers have to equip the storm sewer and lay the top layer of asphalt. In addition, non-stop traffic will be organized at one of the sections – from Krasnokokshayskaya Street to the M7 highway. Bicycle and pedestrian paths will be equipped along the entire highway, and a tunnel for pedestrians and cyclists will open at the railway crossing.
As part of the reconstruction, three underground pedestrian crossings will be built in the area of Zalesnaya Street (near the Olympietz Sports Complex), Osinovskaya Street and Aleutskaya Street. In addition, the construction workers will have to build five aboveground pedestrian crossings – near Muzykalnaya St., Frunze St., Kulakhmetova St., Vosstaniya St. and near the Fakel shopping center.
