The electric transport network will continue to develop in the city, noted Ilsur Metshin, the Mayor of Kazan.
The transport fleet of Kazan expanded with 18 new single-section and three-section tram vehicles. Today, Kazan Mayor Ilsur Metshin visited tram depot 1, where he inspected the quality of the new electric vehicles.
15 single-section and 3 three-section trams were manufactured by Uraltransmash JSC in Yekaterinburg and Transmashholding company in Saint Petersburg. The vehicles are equipped with video surveillance both inside and outside, as well as a video recorder. Asfan Galyavov, Director General of MUE Metroelectrotrans, said that the trams have a low-floor structure and retractable ramps for disabled persons, with a space for wheelchairs.
“These are new generation trams, they are very comfortable, fully automated with a comprehensive silent braking system, and their advantage is that they are energy saving”, - Asfan Galyavov added.
It is planned to run the new vehicles along the Great Kazan Ring road on tram routes 5 and 5A “Railway station – Solnechny gorod residential area”. Now the route is 24 km long and 25 thousand passengers use it daily. Taking into account the expansion of the route to 34 km, the passenger traffic will be more than 30 thousand people, A. Galyavov noted. “We plan to conduct the first run-in of transport on August 20, and after that we will fully open the route and launch the new vehicles”, – A.Galyavov said.
“The most important thing besides improving and expanding the rolling stock is that we are building a new tram line. It is great that Kazan did not abandon tram traffic and did not pave it over. We will continue to develop the city's electric transport”, - I.Metshin said.
