Today, on the eve of Victory Day, Kazan Mayor Ilsur Metshin visited Kayu Khasanov, a 99-year-old veteran of the Great Patriotic War.
“By the decision of the President of our country, Vladimir Vladimirovich Putin, all veterans and participants of the war are awarded the title “Honorary Citizen”. It is a great honor for me, on the eve of May 9, to award you with the highest award of our capital “Honorary Citizen of Kazan”. We are waiting for you at the parade on May 9, and then we will see you on your 100th anniversary,”- Ilsur Metshin addressed the veteran of Kazan.
Kayu Khasanov was born in 1925 in the village of Kunashak, Chelyabinsk region in a large peasant family. When the war began, he was almost 16 years old.
In March 1943, Kayu joined the war and fought on the 1st Baltic Front, liberated the Smolensk and Belorussian regions, and after being wounded, he continued to fight on the Ukrainian front.
In 1949, Kayu Khasanov was discharged from military service and worked as a mechanic at the Polet factory. “I have always been respected, and I have been elected the chairperson of the workshop several times and worked with people,”- he shared.
“Victory Day is by far the most significant holiday for me. Although all holidays are special, this one is not just for me, but for all my loved ones, including my children, grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren,”- said Kayu Khasanov.
For reference, at the 36th session of the Kazan City Duma, it was decided to honor 59 veterans of the Great Patriotic War with the title of “Honorary Citizen of Kazan”.
