Ilsur Metshin: “The labor market has managed to survive, the predicted collapse has not happened”

The unemployment rate in Kazan has reached a historic low, today there are five vacancies per job applicant.

In Kazan, the unemployment rate is 0.49% and reached a historic low at the beginning of 2023. This is one and a half times lower than last year. At the same time, the number of vacancies is growing, there are 5 job offers per one applicant. Timur Mullin, Director of the Employment Center of Kazan, reported about it at the Business Monday meeting.

Kazan Mayor Ilsur Metshin noted that the situation on the labor market during the year was challenging due to the withdrawal of foreign companies, introduction of new logistics chains, the establishment of new business ties. “The collapse, as experts predicted, has not happen. The market has survived, the situation has improved,”- the head of the city drew attention.

Addressing the director of the Kazan Employment Center, I. Metshin suggested working more closely with business representatives to build partner relationship in staff search. “We need to find formats of interaction in order to meet not only in the employment center, but such as the Made in Kazan forum,”- the Mayor noted.

In 2022, 279 companies in Kazan changed their employment structure. In particular, 125 employers released 513 people, 1,200 employees of 91 enterprises worked in part-time employment. The peak of the maximum part-time employment was in the second quarter: almost 2 thousand people worked part-time or were on vacation at their own expense. At the end of the year, 209 companies restored the production and returned to full employment mode.

In addition, due to the sanctions, the number of vacancies in tourism and hotel business, construction, transport and logistics, healthcare and trade has decreased. Along with this, the number of jobs in industrial companies, IT, science and technology, education and culture has increased. According to the forecast for 2023, the demand for specialists in these industries will continue to grow.

“Kazan is an industrial city, today workers are in demand at aircraft manufacturing, chemical and petrochemical enterprises. Thanks to the government order, many enterprises have increased production. The trend will continue this year, so there will be a lot of work,”- Ilsur Metshin emphasized and thanked the federal government for the assistance provided to enterprises.

Так, работодателям были предоставлены субсидии на 52 млн рублей, в том числе на частичную оплату труда более тысячи работников (41 млн рублей), а также за трудоустройство 392 безработных граждан (11 млн рублей). В этом году поддержку продолжат оказывать, а служба занятости готова принимать заявки от работодателей.

Another activity is the retraining of employees under the Employment federal project of the Demography national project. More than 4 thousand Kazan residents have been trained, 90% of them are employed, the speaker said. According to him, the most popular areas are IT, marketplaces, SMM management, Internet marketing, business planning and entrepreneurship, pedagogy and preschool education.

With the assistance of the employment center, 1,187 Kazan residents received vocational training and additional vocational education, another 2,487 people received psychological assistance.
