Ilsur Metshin inspects the progress of the renovation of the bridge on Nazarbayeva Street

The work is carried out ahead of schedule and is planned to be completed by October.

The renovation of the bridge along Nazarbayeva Street in Kazan is planned to be completed a month earlier – by October. Every day, 20 to 40 people work at the facility, depending on the work performed and up to 10 vehicles. The progress of the renovation was inspected by the Mayor of the city Ilsur Metshin.

“The bridge over Kaban Lake is one of the most important traffic arteries in the center of our city. Fortunately, experts found cracks in the supports in a timely manner, construction workers are building a new one at a rapid pace,”- the Mayor said.

The inspection of the bridge was carried out in 2019 and experts determined its emergency condition. After that, restrictions were imposed on the movement of heavy vehicles. Last year, workers began dismantling the pedestrian part and rebuilding the power supply networks. However, during the work, a dangerous deformation of the bridge structure was detected due to subsidence of the soil. And at the end of September, the facility was completely closed to traffic.

Ilsur Metshin noted that according to the contract, the work was planned to be completed in 2024 but thanks to the construction workers commissioning is expected in October 2023.

“Moving down from Vishnevskogo street we got into a narrow neck. To date, the bridge is expanding to eight lanes, this will relieve the traffic flow and, hopefully, in October we will all see a new safe bridge that will improve the traffic situation in the city center,”- the Mayor concluded.

“The main work was done –bored piles, the foundation of the bridge supports, the beams were laid. We can say the bridge in concrete design has already been assembled. It remains to connect them to each other, to lay leveling concrete on top, it remains to assemble the road part of the abutment to the bridge and already complete the arrangement – fences, lighting, and so on,”- said Ruslan Khakimov, deputy director of the contracting organization.

According to him, depending on the type of work performed at the facility, from 20 to 40 people work around the clock and in shifts, about 5-10 vehicles are involved. At the end of the work, the slopes of the bridge will be additionally landscaped.

In total, 277.6 tons of rebar and 2,395 cubic meters of concrete were used for the construction of the bridge supports. 9,745 tons of asphalt concrete will be laid for the roadway and sidewalks.

Upon completion of the repair work, the estimated traffic speed on the bridge will be 70 km / h, the width of the roadway will reach 32.5 m, the length of the superstructure – 18 m. The load-bearing capacity will increase from 15 to 25 tons per axle. Sidewalks with a width of 3 m will also be equipped on both sides, and a bike path with a width of 2 m on one side.

Deputy Head of the Executive Committee of Kazan Igor Kulyazhev and head of the administration of the Vakhitovsky and Privolzhsky districts of the city Albert Salikhov also took part in the visiting meeting.
