Ilsur Metshin congratulates the staff of school No. 159 of the Sovetsky city district on the International Women's Day

The Mayor of the city inspected the renovated school canteen, talked with the employees of the catering unit and teachers.

Today, the Mayor of Kazan Ilsur Metshin visited school No.159 in the Sovetsky city district and congratulated the staff of the institution on the International Women’s Day. The head of the city talked with teachers and employees of the catering unit, and also inspected the canteen renovated last summer, in which the number of seats doubled after renovation.

This school year, the canteen at school No.159, which serves 1,057 school children in two shifts, began working in the format of a school restaurant. The renovation allowed to increase the number of seats from 120 to 260. Furniture and equipment were updated, modern design solutions were also implemented in the interior design.

Acting director of the school Gulnara Vafina thanked the city administration for renovation. “As a father of a large family, and now a grandfather, I know how difficult it is to instill healthy nutrition in children, they like chips, fast food and soda. Therefore, it is important that students receive balanced meals in such wonderful conditions. They can study differently, but at least at school they should eat equally well,”- I. Metshin noted.

At the end of 2022, the school team took second place at the Best School Canteen All-Russian competition among the cities with a million-plus population, while the head of production Svetlana Kirillova became the silver medalist of the competition “The Best Cook of the School Canteen”.

Talking with the Mayor Svetlana Kirillova shared information about the competition. “"We had a set of products and we had to cook four dishes in 40 minutes, it was also necessary to develop process check lists for them. I had a pumpkin, carrots, onions and meat in my set of products. Of course, it was necessary to impress the jury and present my dishes – I cooked the Tatar dish azu, meat in cream sauce, pumpkin soup and vegetable salad,”- she shared.

The competition was held under WorldSkills standards, so the preparation for the test was thorough, said Rima Mukhamedshina, Director General of the Department of Food and Social Nutrition. The jury members were experts of the restaurant business. The Mayor congratulated the team on the victory and wished them further success in this difficult work.

After that, the head of the city talked with the teachers of the school, which employs 58 teachers. Ilsur Metshin reminded his school years and teachers, with some of whom he is still in touch. The Mayor noted the importance of education of children from an early age.

“It is a great honor for me to congratulate the teachers on the International Women's Day, who educate more than 166 thousand school children in Kazan. Thank you so much for your hard work!”- Ilsur Metshin congratulated the teachers.

The first deputy head of the administration of the Sovetsky city district of Kazan Andrey Yakovlev and the head of the Education Department of the city Irek Rizvanov accompanied the Mayor during the visit.
