Ilsur Metshin on the Games of the Future: “It is a great honor to host a world’s pilot project”

The Mayor of Kazan commented on the speech of Russian President Vladimir Putin at the forum “Russia – a country of sports”

Last week Kazan was in the spotlight at the International Sports Forum “Russia – a country of sports”. The capital of the republic of Tatarstan was recognized as the best sports municipality. During the staff meeting, the Mayor of the city Ilsur Metshin thanked the experts for the great appreciation. “We will continue to grow and move on, as well as expand opportunities for sports in the city,”- he assured.

Sports and a healthy lifestyle form a social welfare, the Mayor believes. “The municipality has identified this area as a priority. We set ambitious goals in the five–year health plan: then 13% of the population of Kazan systematically engaged in sports, we set an unattainable goal - to increase the indicators almost fourfold, so that 50% of residents were engaged in sports and led a healthy lifestyle. We have achieved this goal,”- Ilsur Metshin noted.

The Mayor reminded that President Vladimir Putin spoke at the plenary session of the forum. “He noted that Russia aims to preserve the traditions of sports, but at the same time is open to everything new and advanced, and as an example, the President cited the international tournament “Games of the Future”, which will take place in Kazan in February 2024.”
