Ilsur Metshin on the new facility of the Municipal Unitary Enterprise Gorvodzelenkhoz: “We have long wanted to provide decent conditions for employees”

In Kazan, the base of the oldest landscaping enterprise will be renovated with new modern greenhouses and doubled volume of seedlings for landscaping

Today, the Mayor of Kazan, Ilsur Metshin, held a meeting at the new facility of the Municipal Unitary Enterprise Gorvodzelenhkoz on Daurskaya Street. Construction of modern greenhouses, with an area 1.5 times larger than existing ones, will allow for year-round flower growing, increasing the number from 1.1 million to 2.5 million flowers. Work processes in the greenhouses will be automated, reducing gas, water, and electricity consumption, as well as facilitating the work of employees.

The greenhouses of Gorvodzelenkhoz was located on Hadi Taktasha Street, while the main facility of the was also located on Daurskaya Street. The decision to expand the base on Daurskaya Street will allow for more efficient use of resources. After the expansion, the area of the base will be 6.2 hectares. Household, repair, and service buildings, as well as automated greenhouses, will be built here. The former greenhouses built in the 1980s were technically outdated. Annual repairs were required, space was insufficient, and manual labor was primarily used.

“Gorvodzelenkhoz is one of the main enterprises responsible for the improvement of the city. Professionals work here, we have long wanted to provide decent conditions for them. In addition to greenhouses, it is also planned to build a household building, garages and repair facilities vehicles. We grew 1.1 million flowers prior the season. The new greenhouses will allow 2.5 million annual and perennial flowers to be grown year-round. We will increase the quantity and the quality of the beautiful floral decoration of the city,”- said Mayor Ilsur Metshin.

The new greenhouses will be larger than the old ones by more than 1.5 times, covering an area of 11,556 square meters. Previously, employees manually performed all processes in the greenhouses. Now, automated seeding and substrate preparation lines, as well as automatic watering and artificial lighting, will be installed at the facility.

The greenhouses will be equipped with heating systems, and each department will maintain its own specific microclimate for different types of flowers. This will result in an increase in the yield and quality of flower seedlings. The advanced technologies will allow to reduce gas, water, and electricity consumption by 2.5 times for every square meter.

Roza Zabbarova, director of the company, noted that the transition from the old greenhouses to the new ones will be a smooth process. While the existing premises will continue to be used, as much as possible, flowers will continue to be grown at the new facility. However, before that happens, all employees will undergo training on automated processes. Due to the increase in area and the shift to year-round seedling production, the number of jobs in the greenhouses is expected to increase from 20 to 30.

It is planned to complete the construction of the greenhouses and connect the necessary utilities by the end of this year.

The meeting was attended by Igor Kulyazhev, Deputy Head of the Executive Committee of the City, and Albert Salikhov, Head of the Administration of the Vakhitovsky and Privolzhsky city districts.

The Municipal Unitary Enterprise Gorvodzelenkhoz is responsible for preserving the existing green spaces in the city, including streets, squares, and parks. They also maintain the roads and sidewalks in the Vakhitovsky and Privolzhsky districts of Kazan.

This summer, Gorvodzelenkhoz carried out flower decoration in 84 streets in the city. The design covered an area of 15,000 square meters. More than 2,000 flower pots were installed along the main roads in 27 locations.
