Ilsur Metshin: «Kazan is turning into a city where the major international events take place»

The Mayor inspected the readiness of a number of facilities for the BRICS summit

Today, the Mayor of Kazan, Ilsur Metshin, visited the facilities related to the BRICS Summit. He inspected the landscaping of a square on Korotchenko Street, as well as the readiness of Mirage Hotel to welcome guests.

«This year, we have improved a record number of parks and squares prior the BRICS Summit. Every international event allows us to improve city infrastructure, create new parks and squares, and renovate buildings. Therefore, it's important to strive for these events and do our best to ensure they are held at the highest level», – said Ilsur Metshin.

The landscaping of the square on Korotchenko Street with an area of 3,200 square meters began in spring of this year. The concept of landscaping was developed by the architects of the Kazan Development Institute. It was important to preserve the existing green spaces, so only emergency trees and shrubs were cut in the park. In addition, almost 100 trees and 620 shrubs were planted there. A lawn was sown on an area of 2,939 square meters and an automatic irrigation system was installed. Nice walking paths with a total area of 1,100 square meters were equipped.

Twenty-six surveillance cameras and 26 lamps, nine tables, 23 armchairs, 4 benches, 10 urns and parking poles were installed in the park.

For reference, 18 public spaces will be landscaped this year. Most of the work has already been completed, including the Elmai Children's Park, the Fuchs Garden, Kotelnikov Square, and Millennium Square. This was implemented with the support of the federal project «Formation of a Comfortable Urban Environment», the BRICS Summit, and funding from the Tatarstan budget.

«Following the development of the city's infrastructure, Kazan's business sector is also growing, for which I would like to express my gratitude to all its representatives. Fifty-two hotels will accommodate the guests of the BRICS summit. They have all undergone extensive preparatory work and reconstruction, and are now at the final stage, with only the final touches remaining. Kazan is transforming from a sports capital to a city that will host some of the major international events. No doubt, it inspires us», – said Ilsur Metshin.

Renovation was carried out in 14 hotels: 10 of them, including the Mirage, are fully ready, and four rooms are scheduled to be completed by the end of the week.

For reference, the BRICS summit will be held in Kazan on October 22 – 24.

BRICS was established in 2006 as a result of the efforts of Brazil, Russia, India, and China. In 2011, South Africa became its member, and in 2024, Iran, Egypt, the United Arab Emirates, Ethiopia, and Saudi Arabia joined. A number of other countries have observer status within BRICS.
