The Mayor gave an assessment of the holding of the BRICS summit
A meeting for winter preparations in Kazan began with a discussion of a major political event. The BRICS Summit took place in the city on October 22-24. Kazan welcomed leaders from 24 countries, representatives from 42 delegations, and six international organizations. The Mayor of Kazan, Ilsur Metshin, received an invitation from UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres to attend a meeting as the chairman of the Association of Cities and Municipalities of BRICS+ countries.
«The heads of state and delegations from the BRICS summit have recently left, but the advanced teams, journalists, and many others remain in the city to explore it further. I would like to begin this meeting by expressing my gratitude to all involved for the tremendous and time-consuming work we have all done together to prepare for this BRICS event. Although we will fully appreciate the significance of this large-scale event later, we can already say that it has been a historic event», – I. Metshin noted.
5,255 members of official delegations arrived in the city to participate in the summit. «We have not held such a large–scale event yet according to the participants and President Vladimir Putin. And, of course, we express our gratitude to the President of the country, who, ahead of us, apologized to the Kazan residents, thanked the Republic of Tatarstan and the Kazan Mayor's Office, as well as the residents of the city for their patience and hospitality, so we also join the words of the President», – the Mayor said.
During the BRICS summit, the Mayor welcomed the heads of state and representatives from the participating countries at the international airport. «8.2 billion, 5.2 billion was presented during the three-day event in Kazan by the heads of state and delegations», – said the Mayor.
The Mayor shared how the preparations for the BRICS affected the lives of citizens. «Of course, during the preparation period there were many inconveniences for the citizens. We blocked streets when we repaired networks, facades, built roads, renovated parks and squares, fountains, and put the urban economy in order. But all the residents knew that this was being done for the BRICS, and after the summit it would serve for the citizens», – he noted. Concluding his speech, Ilsur Metshin once again expressed gratitude to the residents of the city.
