Ilsur Metshin and Marina Patyashina look around a new disinfection station in Kazan

The institution on Dementieva Street is the first facility of this type built in Russia over the past 20 years.

A new disinfection station opened in Kazan – this is the first facility of this type that has been built in Russia over the past 20 years. The Mayor of Kazan Ilsur Metshin and Marina Patyashina, head of Tatarstan Department of Rospotrebnadzor (Federal Service on Protection Consumer Rights), looked around the station on Dementieva Street today.

“Previous disinfection station was located in a dilapidated building on Karl Marx Street, built in 1928. The working conditions were unsuitable. The decision was made on construction a new building. We have carefully examined the project to ensure that there is everything necessary for a professional and prompt response to any challenges of the pandemic”, - the Mayor said.

M.Patyashina noted that the work of the disinfection station is not noticeable at first view, but it is very important because the specialists of the institution are working to prevent the spread of infectious diseases.

The visitors conducted a short tour of the station – the new two-storey building has a total area of 1,480 sq.m. They looked around the gateway, the disinfection quality control laboratory and the disinfection room.

As I.Metshin was told, the disinfection station conducts treatment of sites of infections: at home, in work collectives, schools, kindergartens. Specialists are also engaged in preventive treatment of territories. “When people go to the park, they are sure that it is safe there. It is true, because the specialists of the station conduct treatment from mites, rodents and mosquitoes. In order to prevent malaria, water reservoirs in the center and settlements of Kazan are also treated for mosquitoes”, - the chief sanitary doctor of the republic added.

According to A.Bikeyev, the station is also engaged in the preparation of major events in the city. The specialists carried out treatment during the Universiade, FINA and FIFA championships, as well as the WorldSkills championship. “The pandemic has made significant adjustments to our work. We work 24 hours a day. Since the beginning of the pandemic, our medical team has completed more than 3 thousand applications related to the spread of coronavirus infection”, - he said.

I.Metshin noted that it is crucial to prevent the spread of rodents in the city. According to experts, in most cases, rats and mice usually live near abandoned buildings.

The Mayor of Kazan instructed to strengthen work with the owners of abandoned buildings, while facilities in abeyance should be taken under control of the Executive Committee. “After the holidays, we will continue discussion proposals”, - he said.
