The fleet of snow cleaning vehicles is 78% ready in Kazan.

On October 15, Kazan enterprises will switch to the winter mode of road maintenance. This year, 549 special vehicles will be used for cleaning roads from snow, including 4 new rotary snowplows and 49 combined road vehicles. In case of a severe deterioration of the weather according to the Buran plan, the number of vehicles will be increased to 1000. This was announced by Igor Kulyazhev, Deputy Head of the Executive Committee of Kazan, at the Business Monday meeting.

“The availability of special cleaning vehicles and the condition of rolling stock is crucial in the complex of works on cleaning the city. This year, thanks to the support of Tatarstan President and the government of the republic, we have purchased 53 new vehicles for cleaning the road network”, - said the Mayor of Kazan.

According to Igor Kulyazhev, this year the area of roads that will be cleared of snow is about 22 million square meters, almost 4 million square meters of them are sidewalks. Over the past 5 years, the area of roads being cleaned has increased by 8% due to the reconstruction and construction of roads. “The road network is increasing, which is good for the city, but financing for the maintenance and improvement of roads is lagging behind the pace of construction and reconstruction. We will continue to improve the efficiency of our work by using new technologies”, - the head of the city noted.

The area of road cleaning is distributed among four contracting companies by district administrations. Four contracting organizations with treaty obligations for 2022 will be engaged in cleaning the streets from snow.

Today, according to Igor Kulyazhev, 428 special cleaning vehicles or 78% have been prepared for work in winter conditions. The remaining part is involved in planting trees, washing and cleaning roads. The process of complete re-equipment of vehicles will depend on the weather.

Besides, the repair of the Boshung combined vehicles continues, which are worn out by more than 80%. Repairs are carried out at the expense of the republican budget, 38 cars have been updated today, 13 more will be repaired by the end of the year.

At the end of September, an interim check of the readiness of enterprises for winter mode of operation was held. As a result, the route maps of the harvesting equipment were changed, as well as training of drivers and machine operators was held.

The anti-icing treatment of roads will be carried out using a two-phase reagent and a sand-salt mixture. To date, 59 thousand tons of the mixture have been prepared, as well as 11,300 tons of the reagent. It is planned to purchase another 6,500 tons of reagent, they will process roads with an area of 12 million square meters.

This season, a combined method of anti- icing treatment will be used: at temperatures up to minus 15 degrees, a two–phase reagent is used, at temperatures below - a solid reagent.

The winter maintenance of the road network will be carried out for 182 days and will end on April 15, 2023. At this time, the dispatching services of contracting enterprises will work around the clock, and a permanent duty of equipment will also be organized.

For reference, last winter in Kazan, there were 78 % more precipitation than average. More than 1 million 150 thousand tons of snow were removed from the streets of the city – which is 200 thousand tons more than in 2021. For the first time in the city the modernized system of monitoring and control of work of equipment on routes was applied.
