Two sewerage collectors have already been switched to the new pumping station, and five more collectors to be switched by the end of the year.
In Kazan, the construction of one of the key infrastructure facilities for the city – the Zarechnaya sewerage pumping station-has been fully completed. With a capacity of 20,000 cubic meters, it will provide collection and transportation of wastewater for almost half of the city.
The results of this work were reported to the media representatives today during a press tour to the station, which was attended by the Mayor of Kazan Ilsur Metshin. “The utility services and my predecessors have been dreaming about this station for almost 30 years. It will allow us to build 4 million sq.m. of housing for 250 thousand people in Zarechye -this number is equal to the population of Nizhnekamsk. This is a crucial facility for the development of the city”, - the Mayor told reporters.
“This project was expected by builders, developers and investors”
The project of the new pumping station was developed in 2014 after Zarechye reached the limit of its sewerage capacity. Construction started in December 2016. According to the Ministry of Construction, Housing, and Utilities of Russia, over the past five years, this is one of the largest infrastructure projects implemented in the country, Ilsur Metshin said at a meeting with media today.
“The construction of the Zarechnaya SPS is comparable in importance to the construction of the Millennium Bridge and the Great Kazan Ring road. Everyone can see the results of that projects, when people drive along these roads, while this work is hidden from the view, - I.Metshin told reporters. - Builders, developers, and investors expected this project, because the site has a great potential for construction, and now we will be able to implement it”.
By the end of the year, seven sewerage collectors will be switched to the Zarechnaya SPS
The work of the Zarechnaya SPS is fully automated, it will function in a round-the-clock mode - told Andrey Egorov, director of the MUE Vodokanal.
“Now we are switching sewerage collectors to the station. This work is carried out in stages, since if everything is carried out at the same time, it will be necessary to turn off the water supply to of the residential area for a period of three to six days”, - A.Egorov explained. Now, according to him, the switching of the Yudino and Kzyl-Army collectors has been completed. By the end of the year, it is planned to switch the remaining five collectors.
When all the stages are fully completed, the pumping station will operate in full design capacity of 20 thousand cubic meters per hour. The sewerage network will be provided to homes for 650 thousand residents.
“In order to carry out the tasks mandated by Russian President, we need a federal program for the modernization of utilities infrastructure”
The construction of the Zarechnaya SPS was carried out under the investment program of the MUE Vodokanal. Such large infrastructure projects in the field of housing and utilities services create the basis of development of Russian cities, but we lack the resources for their implementation today, the Mayor said. For information, on behalf of the Association of the Volga Region Cities I. Metshin stated the need to adopt a federal program for the modernization of municipal utilities infrastructure.
“Today, Russian President Vladimir Putin has designated the Affordable and comfortable housing project as one of the most important national projects. A lot of work is being done in this area: there is a land, builders, consumers, and an affordable mortgage mechanism has been developed. The utilities infrastructure is crucial for water supply, sanitation, sewerage and everything related to engineering infrastructure, there is no solution today”, - the head of the city said.
“With the adoption of such a program, we will be able to start implementing the national project, building comfortable and high-quality housing in Russia. We will be able to carry out the tasks mandated by the President”, - I.Metshin concluded.
