12 works were included in the list of finalists this year.
Guzel Yakhina has become a holder of the “Big book” award for the novel “My children”. The work of Kazan-born writer was also recognized as the best by the results of the reader's vote. The award ceremony was held the day before in Moscow at the Pashkov House.
The winners have become Oleg Lekmanov, Mikhail Sverdlov and Ilya Simanovsky for the book “Venedikt Yerofeyev: a stranger”. Second place took Grigory Sluzhitel for the book “The days of Savely”. The third place was awarded to Guzel Yakhina for the novel “My children”. The award was presented to the writer by the President of the Russian book union Sergei Stepashin. Valery Popov received an honorary award for his contribution to literature.
The awards were also presented to the winners of the reader vote, which was held on the book service LiveLib. The victory was earned by Guzel Yakhina with the novel “My children” - the book entered the top 10 in sales from May to December 2018. Second place was taken by the novel “Days of Savely” by Grigory Sluzhitel, and third – “Brisbane” by Evgeny Vodolazkin, according to the website of the award.
In 2019, 12 works were included in the list of finalists: “Heaven on earth” by Sukhbat Aflatuni, “Dogs of Europe” by Olgerd Bakharevich, “Brisbane” by Eugeny Vodolazkin, “Dog forest” by Alexander Gonorovsky, “Everyone that can breathe a breath” by Linor Goralik, “Venedikt Yerofeyev: a stranger” by Oleg Lekmanov ,Mikhail Sverdlov, Ilya Simanovsky, “Kalechina-Malechina” by Evgenia Nekrasova, “Indirectly” by Alexey Salnikov, “Rain in Paris” by Roman Senchin, “The Days of Savely” by Grigory Sluzhitel, “Life of A.G.” by Vyacheslav Stavetsky and “My children” by Guzel Yakhina.
The winners were determined by the Literary Academy-the jury includes professional writers, journalists, state and public figures and others.
“Big book” is a national literary award, which is awarded for the best prose work in Russian. It was established in 2005 by the Center for support of the national literature.
