The State Historical Museum will present weapons of Renaissance rulers in Kazan

The exhibition “Royal Games” will open in the Museum of the Cannon Court of the Kazan Kremlin on June 21.

(KZN.RU, June 19). The exhibition “Royal Games. Western European weapons and armor of the late Renaissance from the collection of the State Historical Museum.” will open in the Museum of the Cannon Court of the “Kazan Kremlin” on June 21.

The exhibition will acquaint visitors with samples of weapons, created by individual order by the court armorers of the Habsburg Imperial Court, princely West European courtyards, masters of the largest art, and craft centers of the late Renaissance.

The 16th century is the time of the highest development of Western European arms art when outstanding armaments were created. Parade weapons represented power, nobility, and wealth. It was a part of the festive court culture of the XVI century. Tournaments, hunting, shooting competitions, various ceremonies were always accompanied by artistic examples of weapons and armor.

A special place among the exhibits is taken by the armor belonging to one of the representatives of the noble European houses, the two-handed sword of the Landsknecht, the weapon of the best infantry of Europe of the XVI century, and also the chanphron, the prototype of the horse's protective arms.

Artistic items made in the tradition of the late Renaissance and Mannerism, presented at the exhibition, reflect the high level of craftsmanship of the XVI-XVII centuries’ armorers, as well as the artistic taste of the customers, the rulers of the Renaissance.

The exhibition will continue its work until January 31, 2019.
