The main venue for the Maslenitsa celebration in Kazan will be the Ice Town on the Millennium Square

Guests of the holiday will be taught to walk on stilts, to ride huskies, and treated with pancakes.

(KZN.RU, February 13). Residents and guests of Kazan are invited to the festival of Slavic culture “Wide Maslenitsa-2018” on February 17. The fair of craftsmen's works of decorative and applied art will work on the main stage of the celebration, on the territory of the Ice Town on Millennium Square (in front of the Central Stadium), as well as shopping arcades for the sale of works of folk art will be established.

A few more sites will open here: folklore with Russian folk games and amusements, a competitive game, a playground for husky and pony rides. Guests will be able to visit attractions, ride on ice slides, and take part in master classes on walking stilts, folk dances and making charms and coins.

Performers of folk songs and dances, plays with elements of circus art, the Petrushka Theater will perform on the main stage. The program of the festival includes a theatrical performance with the traditional ceremony of incinerating the Maslenitsa Scarecrow, concert and entertainment programs for children and adults, winter fun with prizes, chastushki contest, dances, and games.

All guests of the holiday will be able to taste a variety of pancakes and gingerbread cooked according to old Russian recipes.

The organizers of the event are the Russian National Cultural Association of the RT, the Kazan City Hall, the Assembly and the House of Friendship of Peoples of the RT with the support of the Ministry of Culture of the RT.

The holiday starts at 11 am at the address: Kazan, Millennium Square, Ice Town. The opening of the holiday at 12 pm, according to the Department of Culture.

In addition, folk festivals and celebrations of Maslenitsa will be held at several sites in the city*:

February 17, 1 pm – in the House of Culture “Nagorny”, (Lokatornaya Street, №25b);

February 17, 12 pm – in the House of Culture “Voznesenskoye”, (Nardugan Street, №45);

February 17, 11 am – in the park “Krylya Sovetov”;

February 17, 2 pm – on the square near the House of Culture in Mirny;

February 18, 11 am – in the park Kaleidoscope (Syrytanova Street);

February 18, 10 am – in the forest area of Lebyazhie Lake;

February 18, 11 am – in the Gorkinsko-Ometevsky forest.
