Ecologists gave Kazan citizens an example and started to move on bicycles

The race on the eve of the Car-free Day passed from Ershov Street to Pavlyuhin Street.

(KZN.RU, September 21). Employees of the Ministry of Ecology and Natural Resources of the RT today, the day before the Car-free Day, arranged a bike ride around the city. By their own example, they urged the citizens of Kazan to join the action, which will be held tomorrow.

Inspectors of the Central Territorial Administration for one day gave up cars and public transport trips in favor of bicycles in order to get less harmful emissions into the soil and air. About 20 people drove from Ershov Street to the building of the Ministry on Pavlyukhin Street, №75, having overcome about 3 km. “This is environment-friendly and economically. There is no waste for gas”, explained Rustem Kamalov, the first deputy minister. “There are also energy-saving and energy-consuming effects. The hour on a bicycle is equivalent to training in boxing, it is burned up to 1 thousand kcal”.

Participants of the race are urging to hold such races regularly. This is not just propaganda of respect for nature, but also the opportunity to lead a healthy life, reports the press service of the Ministry of Ecology and Natural Resources of the RT.

The world Car-free Day is celebrated every year on September 22. Eric Britton was the first to announce the idea of holding such an event on a regular basis in 1994 at the International Ciudades Accesibles conference. In the following two years, they were held in Reykjavik (Iceland), Bath (Somerset, United Kingdom) and La Rochelle (France). The first national campaign was held in 1997 in the UK. In Russia, the Car-free Day was first held in 2005 in Belgorod. In 2013, Moscow and Kazan became the first cities that confirmed the official status of participants in the European Mobility Week, within the framework of which the world Car-free Day is held.

This year, the city action will be held in the capital of Tatarstan at the Kamal Theater on September 22. Everyone can take part in the race. It is necessary to have your bicycle and sign up on the page of the youth ecological movement “Budet Chisto” in social networks.
