Dmitry Medvedev: “WorldSkills has become more than a youth competition, it is the championship of the future”

The Prime Minister of Russia opened the WorldSkills Kazan 2019.

(KZN.RU, August 22, Alsu Safina). Dmitry Medvedev, the Prime Minister of Russia, opened the 45th WorldSkills Championship in Kazan. The opening ceremony was held at the stadium “Kazan Arena”. Dmitry Medvedev noted that Russia is proud to host WorldSkills Kazan 2019, and wished success to the contestants, calling the competition the championship of the future.

The ceremony was attended by Tatiana Golikova, the deputy prime minister of the RF, Rustam Minnikhanov, the President of the RT, Ilsur Metshin, the Mayor of Kazan, Simon Bartley, the WorldSkills International President, Robert Urazov, the general director of the Young Professionals Union (Worldskills Russia), and others.

“Russia is hosting the world-class professional excellence competition for the first time, and we are very proud of it”, D. Medvedev welcomed participants and experts. He reminded that the competition will be held in 56 competencies. “Participation in the WorldSkills movement gives everyone a chance to try themselves in different fields be it either construction or design, industry or transport, information technology or the service sector”, said the Prime Minister of Russia. “WorldSkills has long become much more than just a competition among young people, in fact, it is the championship of the future. Here people from different countries, different cultures can work together, compete and communicate, of course. This is a future with a place for creativity and discoveries, for friendship and new victories. Here you can get the main skill for a person of the XXI century: the habit of learning to find a profession that you like and become a real master”. WorldSkills helps to find your way into life, to reveal your potential, believes D. Medvedev. According to him, this is the reason for the success of the movement in our country.

The Prime Minister of Russia marked that WorldSkills brought energy to create a modern education to the country, interest in professions not only among young people, as well as the ability to put theory into practice to become a true professional.

Dmitry Medvedev wished participants to successfully perform at the championship. “I wish to overcome your worry because this is the most difficult thing in any championship. Just believe in yourself and you will succeed!” he said.

Competitions will begin tomorrow and will be held at the exhibition center “Kazan Expo”. “We expect a lot from these five days”, said Simon Bartley, the WorldSkills International President, welcoming the participants in the opening ceremony. He reminded that the first competition was held in Madrid more than 70 years ago. Now the competition is being held for the first time in Russia. “Today we speak clearly: skills and abilities can change people's lives, change society, the economy, can bring prosperity and stability to the whole world”, said Simon Bartley. He thanked everyone who participated in the organization of the competition: Vladimir Putin, the President of Russia, Dmitry Medvedev, the prime minister of Russia, Tatiana Golikova, the deputy prime minister of Russia, Rustam Minnikhanov, the President of the RT, Ilsur Metshin, the Mayor of Kazan, all members of the organizing committee of WorldSkills Kazan 2019, and others.

“You need to show your best side and at the same time compete honestly and fairly”, said Simon Bartley, addressing the contestants. “You will return home from Kazan with raised head and hearts filled with pride for the fact that each of you has already become a champion. Feel every second of this event!”

The WorldSkills Kazan 2019 is held in the capital of Tatarstan from 22 to 27 of August. Its participants are more than 1300 contestants from 63 countries of the world.
