Daniel Marinov on gold medal at the BRICS Games in Kazan: “I am happy that I won within the home walls of the Gymnastics Center”

The athlete scored 84.700 points in the individual all-around competition

Kazan gymnast Daniel Marinov took first place in the individual all-around competition at the BRICS Games in the capital of the republic of Tatarstan. The athlete scored 84.700 points based on the results of six exercises (vault, floor exercises and exercises on apparatus: pommel horse, rings, bars and horizontal bar).

“I am happy that I won within the home walls of the Gymnastics Center, where I have been training for more than 10 years, and the BRICS Games are being held in Kazan. After the all-around competition, I'm just starting to find myself. There are so many messages on the phone, they congratulate on the debut on the international stage,”- Daniel Marinov shared his impressions.

The gymnast noted that, despite the shoulder injury, the competition was successful, although the athlete was a little disappointed. “I planned to score more points in the all-around. I didn't even want to get an international–class master of sports so much as to score the amount of points I have been striving for a long time – above 86.5-87. So far, my best score is 85.989 points,”- Daniel Marinov said.

“I was very upset by the exercise on the rings, now I'm doing a very easy combination, as there is a problem with my shoulder. There was even a question whether I would be able to compete in the all–around, but I can't do it without it,”- the athlete said.

The day before, participants were also qualified for the final competitions in individual all-around, which will take place on June 14 and 15. Two athletes from the country who scored the highest marks for exercises on apparatus qualify the finals. Daniel Marinov will perform on the rings today, and on Saturday – on parallel bars, horizontal bar and vault.

“Yesterday I made a mistake on the rings, for which a point was deducted. I was literally 0.3 points short of the master of sports title. To meet the standards for such a status in the all-around, you need to score at least 85 points. To get an international class, you also need to win an exercise on any projectile with a score of at least 14.5. I am able to do this and the day after tomorrow I will try to show a good result. But today I'm not claiming anything on the rings because of my shoulder," the athlete said.

The second place in the individual all-around was taken by Russian Artur Dalaloyan (79,950), and the bronze was won by Yegor Sharankov (77,950) from Belarus.

The competitions were held at the Kazan Gymnastics Center. More than 100 athletes from Russia, Belarus, Malaysia, Serbia, Syria and other countries competed for the victory.
