Developers of the concept of sustainable development of the Kazan historical settlement received an award at the III Russian festival “Architectural heritage-2020”. At the closing ceremony of the competition held on September 17-19 in Saint Petersburg, the concept was awarded the Grand Prix “Best venue of conservation and development” in the category “Regional or municipal programs aimed at preserving architectural and landscape heritage”.
The team of developers of the concept of sustainable development of the historical settlement of Kazan, consisting of architects Oleg Maklakov and Anna Novikova, sociologist Marya Leontieva and Aide to Tatarstan President Olesya Baltusova, presented an innovative methodology for the development of a modern historical city. The concept has been developed for two years.
The subject of the III Russian festival “Architectural heritage-2020” was the historical and modern landscape in the context of the urban environment. In the year of the 100th anniversary of the republic of Tatarstan, a large exhibition dedicated to the concept of sustainable development of the historical settlement of Kazan, cultural facilities and works of monumental art restored for the anniversary of the republic, comprehensive scientific research in the field of preservation of historical and cultural heritage, as well as restoration of architectural monuments was presented at the festival.
The concept and regulations were developed for the first time for historical settlement of a city more than one million inhabitants. Similar regulations are currently being developed in several cities: Samara, Nizhny Novgorod, St. Petersburg, but the project of Kazan has the most widely and fully developed the part concerning the clarification of the subject of preservation of historical settlements in large cities, the Bright Consulting company’s Press Office reports.
