The Olympic champion held a master class for young athletes in the capital of Tatarstan.
A figure skating master class was held today at the Triumph Sports complex in Kazan. Olympic figure skating champion Alexey Yagudin conducted a class for the trainees of the “FSO Aviator” Olympic Reserve sports school.
“Now I feel like I’m back in Olympic Games in Salt Lake City,”- Alexey Yagudin said speaking with representatives of the city and republican media. “I appreciate such activities and meetings. I am glad to come to Kazan again, to such a hospitable city”, - the Olympic champion continued.
He noted that a large number of sports venues are being opened in Kazan, and all conditions for sports have been created in the city. “The 2013 Universiade in Kazan left behind a great legacy, gave a powerful impetus to the development of sports and the whole region. Figure skating, hockey, basketball, volleyball, water polo and other sports are jointly developing in Kazan, and this is amazing”, - said Alexey Yagudin.
The athlete stressed that today more and more young people are showing interest in sports. “Now young people choose a healthy lifestyle”, - he said.
“Enough talking, let's work”, - with these words, the athlete took the ice, where he was already waiting for the trainees of the “FSO Aviator” Olympic Reserve sports school. Alexey Yagudin showed the young skaters the basic elements: steps, rotations, jumps and others. The children repeated the movements of the Olympic champion.
Albert Salikhov, chair of the Committee of Physical Culture and Sports of Kazan, noted that such master classes inspire young athletes. “Invitation of world–class athletes such as Alexey Yagudin is an additional impetus to the development of figure skating. Children see that with a combination of talent, abilities and hard work, it is possible to reach any heights. We see how the children's eyes are shinning, and they are starting to train even harder”, - Albert Salikhov stressed.
At the end of the master class, Alexey Yagudin awarded the skaters with badges of the candidate for Master of Sports of the Russian Federation and showed an exhibition performance. The meeting ended with a photo session and signing autographs.
For reference, there are four figure skating sports schools in Kazan for 600 children and teenagers, 100 of them enter the national team of the republic of Tatarstan. In addition, the Olympic champion in the team competition Kamila Valieva and two-time Olympic silver medalist Evgenia Tarasova started their training in Kazan.
