Divers went to the bottom of Izumrudnoe Lake and spent 10 hours and 5 minutes under the ice.
(KZN.RU, January 31). Members of the underwater research team of the Russian Geographical Society named after Alexey Leonov set a new world record. Yesterday, the divers plunged to the bottom of Izumrudnoe Lake and spent 10 hours and 5 minutes under the ice. The temperature of the water was 3 degrees above zero.
The dive was complicated by the fact that the reservoir was completely covered with ice, and the scuba divers were in low visibility conditions at depth.
As the researchers themselves say, time at the bottom of the reservoir went very slowly. “It was hard for the first 2 hours and the last 2.5 hours. We froze in the first hours, although the heaters were working. The feeling of cold returned again after 6 hours. But the last 10 minutes were the worst, it seemed they will never end. Feels like we were more tired than frozen: bulky equipment, a lot of cylinders, wooden motions”, scuba diver Maksim Astakhov shared his impressions.
With their dive, they not only set a world record, but also worked out a safe method of diving under the ice for a long time. This is necessary for the organization of future Arctic expeditions. Due to the movement of ice, there is a possibility of a collapsing lane and unplanned delays under water. Thus, during the dive, the diving equipment of NPP “Respirator” was tested. Various extreme scenarios were worked out: accident, equipment failure, mutual aid in an abnormal situation, reports the press service of the regional department of the Russian Geographical Society in the RT.
The achievement of Tatarstan scuba divers was recorded by Bozhana Ostojich, a member of the Board of Directors of the World Confederation of underwater activities. After the dive, the team of researchers was examined by the specialists of the Military Medical Academy named after S. Kirov. The condition of the diving group is stable, all vital signs are normal.
