Activists of the “Tom Sawyer Fest” in Kazan completed the restoration of the house №12 on Kalinin Street

<p> (KZN.RU, July 16). The participants of the Kazan Festival of Restoration of the Historic Environment “Tom Sawyer Fest” completed work at the house №12 on Kalinin Street. </p> <p> This building was the first object restored this season. It is a sample of wooden architecture of the XIX-XX centuries (presumably it was built before 1905). During the month, the volunteers cleaned up the house every weekday. In June, they strengthened the foundation of the house; after that, they updated the frames, restored the lost elements, strengthened the crowns, and painted the facade of the house. In autumn, communications will be arranged there. It is the first object of “Tom Sawyer Fest” that will be connected to the city networks, thanks to the festival. It is planned that all work in the house №12 on Kalinin Street will be completed before the winter, reports the press service of the festival. </p> <p> The next object, which volunteers will begin to restore, is Berkutov House located at Fatykh Karim Street, №1. In total, the activists plan to renovate 3 houses in the historic center of the city this summer. This year Kazan volunteers joined the restoration of the facades of houses that are objects of cultural heritage for the first time during the Tom Sawyer Fest festival. </p> <p> The “Tom Sawyer Fest” is a festival where activists and volunteers repair valuable urban buildings. This movement in defense of the historical environment attracted many cities in Russia. The festival started in Kazan in 2016. Then the activists repaired 3 wooden houses in the city center; 125 volunteers took part in the work. In 2017, the number of participants exceeded 150 people, 4 houses were renovated, and another 5 houses in 2018. In total, the caring citizens have renovated 12 houses in the center of Kazan within the framework of “Tom Sawyer Fest”. </p>
