During the summer season, activists plan to renew 3 houses in the historic center of the city.

(KZN.RU, June 7). The official opening of the Tom Sawyer Fest will take place in Kazan on June 8. Activists are planning to renew 3 houses in the historic center of the city. They have already begun to repair the house of Bogorodsky on Volkov Street, №42.

The opening of the festival will take place in the yard of the house at Kalinin Street, №12. The event starts at 2.30 pm.

In total, volunteers will restore the facades of three residential buildings in the center of Kazan: the house of Bogorodsky on Volkov Street, №42, the house of Berkutov on Fatykh Karim Street, №11, and the house №12 on Kalinin Street.

“Tom Sawyer Fest” is a festival in framework of which activists and volunteers repair valuable urban buildings that are not cultural monuments. This movement in the protection of the historic environment has gathered many cities in Russia. This year, the renovation work will be carried out on the historic houses of 25 Russian cities. The festival was first held in Samara in 2015.

Kazan joined the event in 2016. Then the activists repaired three wooden houses in the city center, 125 volunteers took part in it. In 2017, the number of participants exceeded 150 people, 4 houses were renovated. In 2018, another 5 houses were renewed. In total, Kazan Tom Sawyer Fest updated 12 houses in the center of Kazan with the help of citizens.
