In Kazan, one hundred and fifty-eight reservoirs will be treated from mosquitoes

Today, the specialists of the city's Disinfection Service worked at the water area of Kazanka in the Sovetsky district.

One-hundred and fifty-eight water reservoirs will be treated from mosquitoes in Kazan this summer. For more than two weeks, employees of the Disinfection Service of the city have already carried out disinfection at 70 ponds with an area of 282.45 hectares. Today, experts went to the Kazanka water area in the Sovetsky district.

Every year, larvicidal treatment is carried out after receiving the results of studies of water reservoirs conducted by Tatarstan Center for Hygiene and Epidemiology. Based on the data obtained, entomologists, under the supervision of Tatarstan Department of Rospotrebnadzor (Federal Service for Protection of Consumers Rights), make assignments for the treatment of reservoirs. It is important to carry out larvicidal work in order to prevent the spread of mosquito-borne diseases such as malaria and West Nile fever.

This year, the treatment of reservoirs began on June 23 in Kazan. Specialists have already worked at Kaban Lake, carried out the necessary measures in the villages of Otary, Pobedilovo and in residential complexes of Novo-Savinovsky and Vakhitovsky districts.

“The list of water reservoirs and territories where treatment is carried out remains almost unchanged every year, some water bodies may be excluded from the list if they dry out, - explained Yulia Polyanina, infection disease doctor. - Before starting work, the reservoir is examined for the presence and maturation of mosquito larvae, and only after that specialists carry out treatment”. The work must be carried out in dry, windless weather.

In the Sovetsky district, specialists of the Disinfection Service of the city treated today an area of 31 hectares – the water area of the Kazanka River and its coastal zone. Before treatment, specialists prepare an aqueous suspension of an insecticidal microbiological agent that does not harm the environment. “The agenr used is harmless to humans and animals, in general for the environment”, - Polyanina noted. The suspension dissolves quickly in water and acts on mosquito larvae of all stages of development.

Specialists of Tatarstan Center for Hygiene and Epidemiology will check the results of larvicidal treatment. In case of inefficient treatment, entomologists of the center will carry out another treatment. “The inspection of the reservoirs where the work was carried out showed one hundred percent efficiency of treatment”, - the doctor noted.
