In Kazan, the riverbed of the Noksa River was cleared for the passage of meltwater

<p> Flood control measures are underway in Kazan. Today, the municipal services of the city, under the leadership of the head of the Civil Protection Department of the Executive Committee Ferdinant Timurkhanov, have cleared the riverbed of the Noksa River in the Sovetsky district to protect residents of nearby houses from flooding. </p> <p> Workers had to remove obstacles in the way of meltwater: thick branches, garbage, fallen trees. “We start working early in the morning to finish everything on time,”- said one of the employees of the contracting company. </p> <p> To date, the average height of the snow cover is 67 cm in Kazan. The ground has frozen to a depth of 46 cm, and rivers’ ice thickness is 7 to 23 cm. Experts expect that the snow cover will be gradual, and the peak of the flood will be in the end of March. “The situation will depend on the temperature at the time of breakup of small rivers. Weather conditions now allow all services of Kazan involved in flood control measures to fully prepare for the melting of snow,” - Ferdinant Timurkhanov reported. </p> <p> He noted that the work on clearing territories near the riverbeds of small rivers was carried out in Kazan by 84%. “We plan to complete the work by the end of next week,” - F.Timurkhanov added. </p> <p> In order for the melting of snow near Noksa to pass evenly, preparations began last year – various flood control measures were carried out. So, in the summer in the village of Salmachi, the width of drainage ditches was increased, some sections of the riverbed were straightened and expanded. </p> <p> It should be noted that employees of the district administrations, together with the Civil Protection Department, constantly monitor flood hazard areas. There are 337 private houses in the areas prone to flooding in Kazan. </p>
