The second life of tires: the Kremlin Embankment will be equipped with an eco-friendly running track

The progress of work was inspected by the Mayor of Kazan Ilsur Metshin

On the Kazanka Embankment, work is underway to create an eco-friendly running track that will connect the URAM Extreme Park with the Lenin Dam. The running track is made from recycled car tires. 30 tons of recycled materials were used to create it. SIBUR company has become a partner in the project and has fully funded its implementation. Kazan Marathon participants will be among the first to experience the quality of the track, as it will be included in the marathon route. The Mayor of Kazan Ilsur Metshin inspected the progress of the work on the site. “Participants of the Kazan Marathon will be running on this track very soon. Today, more and more people are choosing a healthy lifestyle. The Kremlin Embankment is a popular place not only for walking and family outings, but also for those leading an active sports life. It is great that such a running track will be equipped here, and it will be another incentive to do sports,”- said Ilsur Metshin. The running track is made from polyurethane chips that are obtained by recycling old car tires. This environmentally friendly solution provides comfort for runners, in contrast to the previous concrete pavement that was not suitable for running. The track will be 2 meters wide and more than 3 km long, from URAM Park to the Lenin Dam. The coating has a thickness of 8 mm. Thirty tons of recycled tires were used to create the track. This project is a part of a big waste management initiative: from March 25 to April 7, the regional operator “PZhKh” management company collected more than 600 tons of used tires in special containers around the city. A significant portion of this amount will be used to create playground coverings in Tatarstan.
