First Official Reception of the Consulate General of India Held in Kazan

Diplomatic mission opens new prospects for partnership in economy, culture, and tourism

The first official reception of the Consulate General of India in Kazan marked a significant event in strengthening international ties. The gathering, timed to coincide with India's Republic Day, took place on January 28, 2026, and signified the start of active work for the diplomatic mission, which was opened in the capital of Tatarstan in November of last year.

The reception served as a platform for constructive dialogue between representatives of the Republic of Tatarstan's leadership, the diplomatic corps, and business circles. Deputy Chairman of the State Council of the Republic of Tatarstan, Yuri Kamaltynov, read out a welcoming message from the Head of the Republic of Tatarstan, Rustam Minnikhanov. The message emphasized confidence that the establishment of the Consulate General of India would form a solid foundation for expanding cooperation and strengthening the strategic partnership between India and Tatarstan, as well as with the Russian Federation as a whole.

During the event, the head of the diplomatic mission, Consul General of India in Kazan Mr. Jeysundhar D., held a meeting with the Deputy Mayor of Kazan, Evgeniya Lodvigova. The meeting served to discuss promising directions for future collaboration.

The Consul General shared his impressions from his first visit to Kazan in 2018 and noted the significant progress in the city's development, which opens wide prospects for cooperation. He named petrochemicals, information technology, pharmaceuticals, agriculture, and tourism as the key areas for joint work in 2026.

Mr. Jeysundhar D. is an experienced diplomat, who previously served as Director of the Jawaharlal Nehru Cultural Centre at the Embassy of India in Moscow and worked at a diplomatic mission in Belarus. It is important to note that Mr. Jeysundhar D. is fluent in Russian, a language he studied during his time at Moscow State University.

The opening of the Consulate General of India in Kazan is a significant step in developing multifaceted cooperation.
